The couple’s lives are turned upside down when their daughter is cast alongside a controversial big star. Referenced in The DA'S Office: Ep. 26 – ACOLYTE REVIEW! Could This Be the End of Disney Star Wars? (2024). The first half of the film is more of a character study, following Anette, a deeply unhappy and lonely housewife who soon discovers that her husband Ben may be having an affair with famous actress Alicia. The second half of the film is more of a thriller, where we see the pace pick up and the wheels start turning in Anette’s head in its bubbling, then explosive final act. It’s gripping, gripping and suspenseful throughout. It’s backed by a stunning performance from Daisy Ridley. She’s a real revelation. The quiet moments of raging anger here weigh heavily. There’s a symbolic scene where we see her break a mirror after pushing it for a moment, symbolizing their crumbling marriage. Shazad Latif is also good here. The trailer is quite misleading. It can drag and be boring at times. The ending might be cathartic and rewarding for some viewers, while mediocre for others. Hiba Ahmed’s Matilda, the daughter, is just okay, although children’s performances in a film are often not very good. She felt more like a prop than a character. And Matilda Lutz, while really beautiful and charming and convincing as a movie star in the context of the film, was just okay. Perhaps because Lutz is Italian, many of her lines sounded strange or blunt. If you like thrillers with strong acting, especially thrillers involving female rage, eroticism, and infidelity, this is the one to go for.
